Supporting children and young people with organic and functional conditions

Miracle Child NeuroLab introduces registered psychologists with many years of experience, who specialise in supporting children and young people with organic and functional conditions.

All psychologists have an additional qualification in paediatric clinical neuropsychology from University College London.

Each of us can assess and address the needs of children with medical conditions or complex medical histories that may affect their brain and development.

This may be a condition they were born with or an injury sustained after birth.

How we help

Example – History of Extreme Prematurity
Children and young people born pre-term are at increased risk of developmental problems including:
  • cerebral palsy
  • motor function issues and learning difficulties or challenges around educational attainment
  • issues with communication and language
  • executive functioning issues
  • traits associated with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Due to the increased risk of developmental delay, which could have an impact on health and wellbeing, if a child is born at 28 weeks or earlier the current NICE guidelines recommend increased monitoring by medical teams and the provision of enhanced developmental support up to 2 years of age. This includes a face to face assessment at 4 years of age to enable teams to identify any potential issues and enable support packages to be put into place, particularly in an education setting. We are in a position to provide such assessments at age 4 (or later) should you wish to arrange for an assessment privately.
